My Training and Treatment Approach
Inspired by my curiosity to better understand human behavior and to make a positive difference in the world, I studied psychology in college and graduate school. I completed my bachelor’s degree at UC Davis in 1988, my doctorate degree at the California School of Professional Psychology in 1993, and I had a fulfilling career at Kaiser Permanente (Milpitas and Oakland) as a clinical psychologist for 27 years. I have extensive experience treating a diverse population of adults for a variety of mental health conditions including anxiety, mood, personality, and trauma-based disorders.
I specialize in using EMDR to target trauma-based problems to help my clients achieve effective, efficient, and lasting change. I customize treatment to each client’s individual needs and goals. In addition to EMDR, I am informed by other evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
On a more personal note, I was born on the East Coast and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. As the daughter of immigrant parents from China, I am bicultural and conversational in Mandarin. Outside of my professional role, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, singing, playing music, writing, drawing and painting, community organizing, and serving as a volunteer board member on a non-profit advocacy organization.
Humbly accept what you cannot change. Courageously change what you can. Live fully and intentionally by your values.
